Jonathan and Cheryl first met in 2002. They were introduced through Cheryl’s cousin Joseph Jose who was a very close friend to Jonathan. Cheryl and Jonathan exchanged numbers. Their unforgettable first conversation made a lifelong impact. Some of their first memories include their first date, where they watched the movie, Enough, starring Jennifer Lopez. They ended the evening with a romantic drive to the park where they talked and shared their first kiss. At the time Jonathan resided in Oceanside, CA. while Cheryl was in Bakersfield, CA. Their relationship was challenged by 6 months of long-distance relationship and the occasional weekend visits. Both Cheryl and Jonathan moved back to Delano to finally be together. Even after 2 months of dating, Cheryl knew Jonthan was the one, she was already telling Jonthan's cousins "I'm going to be a Mamauag!" Of course, they were all thinking Cheryl was crazy and just sprung. Yet, Jonathan was sprung too that a year later he gave Cheryl a promise ring. Then In the 2nd year they planned on having a baby. Cheryl’s mother had convinced her to get off birth control because she wanted a grandbaby from them. Cheryl immediately conceived, despite being on contraceptives for 5 years. This was a blessing in disguise. Cheryl’s dad, who was a Correctional Officer at the time, handed an application to Jonathan and said, “You’re about to have a family, you need a career.” This was their family’s life changing advice. Since becoming an officer, Jonathan has been able to continuously provide and support his family. Cheryl and Jonathan wanted to be married before Kobe was born. Their civil marriage was on April 5, 2004. Kobe was born April 28 a few weeks later. They planned on having a big wedding, but Jonathan's mother said "No, buy a house first, you have a family now, do the big wedding later!" They knew that was good advice! They end up buying their first house in Delano, CA. Fast forwarding 9 years later, they were blessed with a baby girl Jazzlyn, December 28, 2012. God’s timing is perfect. Cheryl and Jonathan are now ready to celebrate a Blessing of their 20th wedding anniversary and would be honored to have you as their guest to witness and share the exchange of vows on their big wedding day.
